Five homemade drinks for the Advent season
What could be better than getting cozy on the couch on cold winter days with a delicious mulled wine or hot cocoa, reading a book, chatting with your best friend, or watching a Christmas movie? Today, we're introducing our favorite DIY recipes:
The traditional alcoholic advent drinks

Advocaat is as much a part of Christmas as the Christ child and the Christmas tree. One of our absolute Christmas favorites is easy to make yourself and, if you don't drink it right away, can even be stored for several months.
Ingredients for approx. 1 liter:
- 8 fresh egg yolks
- 1 sachet of Bourbon vanilla sugar
- 250g powdered sugar
- 1 can (340 ml) evaporated milk (7.5% fat)
- 1/4 L white rum
- Whisk the egg yolks and vanilla sugar in a bowl (preferably metal).
- Gradually stir in the powdered sugar, evaporated milk, and rum.
- Whisk the advocaat mixture over a hot water bath for about 6 minutes using a hand mixer.
- Bottle the advocaat.
What would Christmas be without mulled wine? That's why this classic can't be missing from our Advent drinks. But to make sure you don't get bored, we have a nice spicy recipe for you.
Ingredients:
- 1 organic lemon
- 1 L red wine
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 cloves
- 4 tbsp cane sugar
- 8 cardamom pods
- 10 allspice berries
- 10 cloves
- 4 star anise
- 1 tsp anise seeds
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 organic orange
Slice the fruit and add it to a pot with the other ingredients. Heat everything to approx. 80°C and then let it steep for at least 30 minutes. Strain everything through a sieve and season with cardamom or sweeten with honey to taste.
Are you tired of the classic winter drinks? Then try your hand at Bombardino. This Italian Christmas drink contains a generous shot of advocaat and is considered the ultimate ski slope drink in Italy. You can find the recipe at gustini.de
Christmas drinks for young & old
We also have a recipe for children who would like a warm drink in winter: The children's punch in this recipe is as fruity and cinnamony as you know it, but homemade always tastes best. So even the little ones can toast. This recipe makes six glasses.
- 1 L fruit tea
- 250 ml apple juice
- 250 ml orange juice
- 1 splash of lemon juice
- 5 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 sachet of vanilla sugar
- Bring one liter of water to a boil and let 5 fruit tea bags steep in it for about 10 minutes.
- Then add the juices, cloves, cinnamon stick, and vanilla sugar. Let it steep on the lowest flame for about 15 minutes.
- Finally, strain out the spices and serve the warm punch in cups.

Hot chocolate - another Christmas classic. Take chocolate and melt it in warm milk, and you have a winter drink that's still good to drink in January or February. Is the classic version too boring for you? Then try it with white salted caramel chocolate, with a shot of rum, or a nice dollop of whipped cream.
